Screen Studio vs DoDemo: Pay-Once Demo Recorder for Mac and Windows

Screen Studio and DoDemo are both trying to turn a screen recording into a product demo: a zoom that follows the work, a cursor that does not jitter, and a frame you can put on a page. They are not the same purchase, and they do not run on the same computers.
The facts below are the ones each product states. Screen Studio's come from screen.studio. DoDemo's are the prices and the app we ship.
Where it runs
Screen Studio's site says the app is for macOS, recommends macOS Ventura 13.1 or later, and answers "Is the Windows version ready?" with no, and no near-term plan to add Windows.
DoDemo is a native app for Mac and for Windows. Display, window, and area capture, plus webcam, microphone, and system audio, are on both. The project stays on the machine until you export.
If the person recording the demo is on Windows, Screen Studio is not an option. That is the whole of the Windows comparison.
What you pay
Screen Studio sells subscriptions. Their site lists a monthly plan at $29, and a yearly plan discounted against that monthly price. Their FAQ says one-time licenses used to exist and are no longer available for new purchases. Older one-time buyers keep the license they already have.
DoDemo has a free plan and three Pro prices.
- Free: the recorder and the editor. Exports include a DoDemo watermark.
- Monthly: $9, down from $12.
- Yearly: $36 a year, which is $3 a month, down from $80.
- Lifetime: $49 once, down from $199. Lifetime includes a 14-day money-back guarantee, any reason, including after you have used the app.
Pro removes the watermark on MP4 and GIF exports. Monthly and yearly cancel anytime. You keep Pro through the end of the period you already paid. Unused subscription time is not prorated.
Those are the charged prices. The struck-through amounts are the previous public prices, shown on the pricing page.
The demo itself
Both products are built so you do not hand-key every zoom. In DoDemo you record, stop, and the editor opens with zoom regions from the cursor and the clicks. You keep them, retime them, or draw your own from 1.25× to 5×. You can smooth the cursor, set a background and padding, generate captions, crop, and change speed. Then you export MP4 or GIF.
This article does not invent a feature-by-feature score against Screen Studio's current Mac build. If you are choosing on a Mac, install both and record the same click. If you are choosing on Windows, the Mac app is not in the test. Other Windows recorders are listed in seven Screen Studio alternatives.
Which one to install
Choose Screen Studio if you are on a Mac, you want their subscription, and you are fine without a Windows build on the team.
Choose DoDemo if the demo has to be recorded on Windows as well as Mac, if you want a free export before you pay, or if you want to pay once. The lifetime plan is $49, with 14 days to change your mind.
Download DoDemo. The downloads page detects your Mac or Windows and offers that build.
