Product Demo Video Script Template (Free, With Examples)

A demo script is five lines. If it is two pages, you are about to record a tour. Copy the template, fill it for one task, and only then open the recorder.
The template
The bold label is for you. Say the rest out loud, except the viewer line. That one stays off camera.
- Viewer. Who is this for, in one role and one job.
- Problem, under 15 seconds. The frame they already live in, in their words.
- Task. The click path, as steps you will actually perform.
- Result. What is different on screen when you stop talking.
- Action. One verb, the same words as the button beside the video.
Rules while you fill it in:
- One viewer. "Founders and marketers and support" is three videos.
- One task. A second feature becomes a second script.
- The result has to be visible. "It feels faster" is not a result. A number, a sent state, or a control that is now large enough to read is a result.
- The action is one sentence. Do not offer a demo, a download, and a newsletter.
Example: a screen recorder
This is the script for a DoDemo homepage cut.
- Viewer. A founder who has to ship a homepage video this week and does not have an editor.
- Problem. "The click is invisible. The window is the whole desktop, and the button is too small to read."
- Task. Record the product window. Click the control that matters. Stop.
- Result. "The zoom follows the click. The button is readable. The window sits in a frame, not on a raw desktop."
- Action. "Download DoDemo and record the click you have been trying to show."
That action matches the download page. If the video were about price, the action would match the pricing page instead.
Example: a SaaS report
- Viewer. A finance lead who opens the weekly report and cannot find the total.
- Problem. "The total is on the page, and it is still too small to trust."
- Task. Open the report. Click the total.
- Result. "The total fills the frame. The cursor is on that cell."
- Action. "Start the trial and open your own report."
Record that path once. In DoDemo, the zoom regions come from the cursor and the clicks, so line 4 is something the viewer sees, not only something you claim.
How to read it while you record
Put the five lines where you can see them and the product can not. Speak lines 2, 4, and 5. Perform line 3. Do not read line 1 aloud. The viewer should feel that the video is for them. They do not need you to announce their job title.
If you stumble on line 4, the result is not visible yet. Stop and click the thing you meant to show. Do not explain your way out of a muddy frame.
Time the spoken lines. A homepage cut wants the whole script to land in about 45 to 90 seconds. Why that range, with Wistia's published engagement figures, is in how long a demo should be.
Then record it with the 30-minute pass. The script is finished when a person who has not seen the product can repeat the result after one viewing.
